International Experience Canada Program: 2024 IEC Pool

What is the International Experience Canada (IEC) Program?

The IEC program is a dynamic initiative by the Government of Canada that facilitates the exchange of young professionals, students, and travelers between Canada and participating countries. It offers a range of visa options, including Working Holiday, Young Professionals, and International Co-op (Internship), allowing participants to live, work, and travel in Canada for a specified period.

The Working Holiday stream: this stream provides an Open Work Permit (OWP) valid for up to two years, granting holders the freedom to work for a wide range of employers across various industries in Canada.

Young Professionals stream: this stream issues employer-specific work permits, often requiring a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), catering to individuals with a job offer intending to work for a single employer in Canada.

International Co-op Internship stream: this stream accommodates citizens of participating countries enrolled in post-secondary programs in their home countries. This stream allows them to enter Canada for internship or work opportunities with specific Canadian companies. It's important for applicants to secure co-op placements before initiating the application process.

The 2024 IEC Pool: What You Need to Know

Each year, the IEC program opens its pool of candidates, inviting eligible individuals from partner countries to apply for a work permit to experience life in Canada. Here's what you need to know about the 2024 IEC pool:

  • Eligibility Requirements: To qualify for the IEC program, applicants must hail from one of the 30+ partner countries, have a valid passport throughout their stay, and fall within the age range specified for their nationality. Financial preparedness is key, with a minimum of $2,500 CAD required upon arrival. Health insurance coverage for the duration of the stay is mandatory. Applicants must also ensure admissibility to Canada, arrange round-trip travel or have funds for a departure ticket, refrain from bringing dependents, and pay the necessary fees. The specific eligibility criteria may vary depending on your country of citizenship and the category of visa you're applying for.

  • Application Process: The application process for the IEC program typically involves several steps, including creating an online profile, submitting required documents, and participating in a random selection process (often referred to as "draws"). If selected, you'll receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a work permit, allowing you to proceed with your application.

  • Participating Countries: The IEC program partners with over 30 countries and territories worldwide, offering eligible citizens the opportunity to participate in the program. Each country may have its own quota or allocation of spots within the program, so it's essential to stay informed about your country's specific participation requirements.
